EWMI was awarded a contract by the Romanian Ministry of Justice under a project funded by the World Bank to modernize the National School for Clerks' (NSC) curriculum in Bucharest. The overall goal of the project was to prepare judicial clerks to assume managerial tasks performed by judges as Romania continued to modernize its justice system to bring it in line with European Union standards. As a first step, EWMI conducted an in-depth assessment of the clerks' needs and the NSC's training program in February and March 2008. The preliminary findings were presented at a workshop in Bucharest in March, and the EWMI team of training and court administration experts were tasked with drafting a revised curriculum, which was presented in Bucharest later that year. The project's major achievement was the creation of a modern curriculum that prepared clerks to assume greater responsibilities and manage courts in a more effective and transparent manner. EWMI’s partner in this project was the Institutul Roman de Training (IRT).
