EWMI’s Separation of Powers Program in Serbia, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), recently sent several Serbian judicial leaders and SPP staff to the “Court Excellence Conference” in Dubai hosted by the International Association for Court Administration (IACA), in association with the Dubai Courts. In addition to sponsoring international conferences and trainings on court administration and management, IACA’s mission includes the promotion of professional courts in emerging democracies and serving as a resource for judges, court administrators, and other government officials to improve justice systems. The conference, held December 9 – 11, provided an opportunity for court officials from around the world to meet and share experiences.
The Serbian judicial leaders whom EWMI sent were Ms. Branka Tomasevic, head of the Financial Department of the High Court Council (HCC), and Ms. Mirjana Puzovic, Chief of Cabinet of the Supreme Court President. At the Conference, Ms. Tomasevic delivered a presentation titled “Modernization of Financial Operations in the Judiciary,” which highlighted EWMI SPP’s project activities. Participants also had the chance to see other presentations regarding court administration topics, including “Leadership and Change Management,” “Strategic Planning,” “Court Technology” and “Budgeting in times of crisis.” The presenters included many world renowned experts in the field of operational efficiency, registry support technologies and higher standards of court user response and support.
