Job opportunity with an upcoming USAID-funded program in Kazakhstan

East-West Management Institute, Inc. (EWMI) invites national experts’ applications for the Legal Advisor position as part of EWMI’s proposal for the upcoming five-year USAID/Strengthening Civic Engagement in Kazakhstan. The Activity will support civil society organizations to promote public engagement in decision-making processes, apply innovative solutions to enhance citizens’ rights in Kazakhstan and strengthen government and civil society partnerships. This is a long-term position and offers a generous benefits package. The assignment start date will be determined later.
Overall responsibilities:
The Legal Advisor is the key position for this Activity and will lead Objective 3 and provide legal analysis and guidance as needed for other objectives.
Required qualifications:
- A law degree, preferably one that can be transferred to Kazakhstan’s legal context.
- At least 3 years of experience with policymaking and law‐drafting in Kazakhstan.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience in collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society, think tanks, government agencies, and international donors.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct legal analysis and produce high‐quality but simple written material for a variety of audiences.
- Professional fluency in English both oral and written is required. Proficiency in Kazakh and/or Russian language skills preferred.
- Experience working with and/or good knowledge of the Kazakh civil society preferred.
- Experience and/or familiarity with USAID projects and programs preferred.
