Georgia Criminal Justice Statistics Project
—
The East-West Management Institute worked in cooperation with a consortium led by B&S Europe to support important criminal justice reforms in Georgia. The Georgia Criminal Justice Statistics Project, which was sponsored by the European Commission, established a system of comprehensive criminal justice statistics and data analysis.
A comprehensive and reliable statistics system is an important instrumental tool for coordinators of criminal justice reform, allowing for a better foundation for policy decisions and fact-based assessment of progress. EWMI and B&S experts worked in coordination with the Ministry of Justice and civil society and professional groups to conduct in depth assessments of existing criminal justice statistics systems in Georgia. Following the assessment, the team made recommendations to establish a comprehensive system in line with European best practices. EWMI focused on the need to harmonize data collection practices, improve data quality, and develop consensus on the intended use of the statistics.
