The East-West Management Institute, Inc. (EWMI), a not-for-profit organization engaged in strengthening civil society and promoting the rule of law around the world, is recruiting a paid part-time Communications Intern to work in its New York City or Washington, D.C. headquarters and assist EWMI with writing, social media support, and general communications tasks. This internship will begin in January 2024.
Responsibilities:
The Communications Intern will be responsible for undertaking the following activities:
- Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading outreach pieces for external posting, newsletters, factsheets, and the EWMI website;
- Draft engaging written, image-based, and video content for priority social media platforms that showcase EWMI programs and activities, thought-leadership, and best practices;
- Monitor social media trends and best practices to propose innovative ideas for possible content and engagement strategies;
- Contribute ideas for upcoming social media campaigns and content themes; help maintain a content calendar to ensure timely and consistent posting on various social media platforms; and assist leadership to develop an organization-wide media strategy;
- Assist in monitoring the performance of social media posts, videos, and other content, and provide insights through analytics tools; and
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and editing skills, particularly for social media content, with sound judgment;
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and YouTube and graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Canva;
- Strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment;
- Demonstrated interest in international development and sensitivity to political, cultural and national differences and adaptability to multicultural environments;
- Fluency in English required; knowledge of another language is a plus;
- Prior office experience is desired.
