EWMI Programs in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has experienced rapid revenue growth in recent years and the US Government is supporting efforts undertaken by the Government of Azerbaijan to ensure that this growth reaches Azerbaijani citizens in the regions. This support stems from the belief that increased citizen participation in regional social-economic development will ensure more efficient allocation of resources, will better address critical, daily problems, and will improve the quality of life in the regions.

2004 – 2006

EWMI provided assistance critical to the successful implementation of the Rural Economic Development (RED) Program, implemented by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Azerbaijan. The program’s goal was to establish profitable and sustainable agricultural production and processing systems in order to improve food security, increase farmer incomes, and assist in the building of integrated rural market chains systems in nine targeted regions of Azerbaijan. Over 2,000 farmers from 91 Producer groups participated in the RED Program.
